St. Andrew's Prayer to Obtain Special Favors

Family and Friends,

Often as Christmas approaches we begin to things of the things we want or need, often in terms of material things. But is there something you want more, such as a friend or family member's health to improve, or for an increase of faith for yourself or others, or anything along these lines?

If so please consider praying the St. Andrew's Prayer (also known as the Christmas Anticipation Prayer) which started November 30 (sorry I am late in sending) and ends on Christmas. Please see below! I will be praying it for some special intentions ;) along with my precious students.

"While a novena is normally a nine-day prayer, the term is sometimes used for any prayer that is repeated over a series of days. The Saint Andrew Christmas Novena is often called simply the "Christmas Novena" or the "Christmas Anticipation Prayer," because it is prayed 15 times every day from the Feast of Saint Andrew the Apostle (November 30) until Christmas. The First Sunday of Advent is the Sunday closest to the Feast of Saint Andrew.
The novena is not actually addressed to Saint Andrew but to God Himself, asking Him to grant our request in the honor of the birth of His Son at Christmas. You can say the prayer all 15 times, all at once; or divide up the recitation as necessary (perhaps five times at each meal).
Prayed as a family, the Saint Andrew Christmas Novena is a very good way to help focus the attention of your children on the Advent season."

Saint Andrew Christmas Novena

Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God! to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Saviour Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen.
If you think this is hard to do, my students prayed it 80 times in one day. Who knows if they were learning anything, but at least they were in conversation with God ;)

6 Blessed Months in Review

Currently:
Nathan is staying busy with helping FOCUS grow in the Northeast, so that includes traveling to his regional campuses and doing some expansion work. He is also staying busy with his Master studies in Scripture at the Augustine Institute and evenings of recollection with Opus Dei.

I am staying busy with teaching 2nd and 3rd grade and starting Collaborators in Philadelphia with Sasha Conrad!

Together, Nathan and I enjoy exploring the city, hiking, sharing meals and adventures with friends, hosting visitors to Philadelphia, and experiencing the rich Catholic culture in Philadelphia which is the home to many shrines, beautiful churches, and two saints, St. John Neumann & St. Katherine Drexel!

Oh! and Nathan would not want me to fail to mention that he is helping me get back into shape by learning how to kettlebell! We have only worked out a few times together, but it feels good to have that sore feeling the next day! If you've never heard of kettlebelling, look it up on youtube! It's a cross between cardio and weightlifting!

Looking forward to:

Christmas in St. Louis
being with family and friends, and of course meeting our new nephew Rory!

New Year's in New Orleans
Attending a wedding on Nathan's side of the family!

Staying on top of the blog, but no promises :)

November:

Thanksgiving with Nathan's Parents
Nathan's mom and dad came to town to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with us! Lauren got many great lessons in cooking including learning how to make a turkey, dressing, pumpkin pie, and the Ulrich family special homemade cinnamon rolls with the help of her mother-in-law Leah. Nathan and his dad, Larry, enjoyed some football and cleaning up our mess! We all enjoyed seeing the sites and historical spots on Wednesday and Friday. The break went fast, but we were grateful to spend the holiday with family!

full!

Our Anniversary!
July 10, 2011
We were able to share a meal with all of our parents a few days before our anniversary, in St. Louis. Nathan's mom brought us the top of our wedding cake. It was still delicious! We couldn't believe it after hearing many horror stories of cake frozen for a year! We had a great evening and loved being with all of our parents!

Michigan with Nathan's Family
We took a trip down memory lane with Nathan's Papa! Nathan's great grandpa built a fishing lodge in Colon, MI. Nathan's grandfather grew up helping his grandfather in the summers at the lodge. Though the lodge is no longer in the family, it has been kept up and updated for vacationers to come stay and fish. It was great being at Miller's Landing (the name is still the same ;)

The sunsets were stunning. Lauren kept trying to find the perfect sunset picture for Papa. He said that the best is when the full sun is there, in reddish color, and you can see the ripples in the water! Lauren took hundreds of pictures, but none of the pictures could quite capture the beauty!

Papa front and center!

End of School Year

Trip to KC - Family Friends Ordination
The male branch of the Apostles of the Interior Life were blessed with the priestly ordination of 4 of their brothers. One more brother was blessed with his transitional diaconate. We were blessed to be present at this ordination Mass and celebrate with the Apostles of the Interior Life whom have greatly impacted our lives. We thank them for their prayers and we pray for them!

Sr. Elena's Visit to Philadelphia
Sr. Elena, Apostles of the Interior Life, and her family came through Philadelphia on their way back to Italy! We had a great time hosting her beautiful family and taking them to the historic sites and to our Italian District! Sr. Elena said she tasted the best gelato in the states here in Philly!

FOCUS Training in Illinois
On the way to training we stopped by Lauren's friend's the Buschelman's to stay for the night in the midst of our trip. We enjoyed a family dinner with them and a round of Cribbage! It was a great way to break up our trip!
